The Europass is a EU initiative that was launched to improve communication and understanding of qualifications across Europe, helping people to make their skills more easily readable and comparable abroad. Concretely the Europass is a standardized tool comprising of the following 5 documents backed-up with advice and support services on the ground in the different Member States: the Curriculum Vitae, the Language Passport, the Europass Mobility, the Certificate Supplement, and the Diploma Supplement. With over 55,000 daily visits to the Europass portal and over 100 million downloads of the Europass CV since 2004, the Europass clearly demonstrated its added-value by bridging the world of work with the world of education.

 

Building upon its success, the revised Europass Framework, which was adopted in April 2018, aims at simplifying and modernising the Europass CV and other skills tools. Its goal is to ensure that it can offer people even better and user-friendlier tools to showcase their qualifications and obtain useful real-time information on skills needs and trends which can help with career and learning choices. The European Parliament managed to ensure that this instrument is more accessible to people with disabilities and protects personal data more effectively. MEPs also managed to clarify the “skills intelligence” data system (aggregated data on skills and competences), which is essential for guidance and counselling, the recruitment process, the choice of education, training and career paths.

 

The amendments to the current framework features:

•           an e-portfolio for creating, storing and sharing information,

•           free self-assessment tools to evaluate one's skills,

•           tailored information on learning opportunities across Europe,

•           information and support to help you get one's qualifications recognised,

•           career management and labour market intelligence about what skills are most in demand and where.

 

The new Europass Framework will also be linked with other EU tools and services across labour, education and training systems, such as the EURES job mobility portal, allowing for an easier exchange of information and more integrated services for end-users.

 

With the agreement on this Revised Framework the Commission has now delivered on all ten actions announced under the New Skills Agenda for Europe.
